Penguin First Editions :: Early First Edition Penguin Books

Penguin launched a series of nature handbooks in hardback in June 1978. Six titles appeared at the launch, the first being Fishes of the British and Northern European Seas by Jorgen Møller Christensen. These were translations of original Danish publications, and were printed in Portugal. Although there was an initial intention to produce 19 volumes, only 13 were issued, with the last published in 1980.

Although we have given the prefix 'NG' for our own purposes, none was allocated by Penguin, and using the ISBN numbering system, Nature Guides are 063 (No. 1 being 014063001-5)
